LARGO CONCRETE INC.
Safety = Success
A Winning Formula for Everyone!
-
Our Safety Team consists of qualified, competent
individuals who are committed to the company's safety program and are
available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
-
From the beginning to the end of every job, our safety
team evaluates, educates, and implements safety policies and procedures.
-
Employees at Largo
attend a New Hire Orientation at our Training Center.
Safety is the emphasis of our training, we cover everything in our Company
Policy and Procedure Handbook through means of verbal presentation, videos,
and handouts. Documentation is checked, paper work is filed, and laminated
training cards are awarded to each employee upon completion of orientation.
-
At the time of orientation, employees are introduced to our Yellow Hardhat
Program.
This program helps employees who have been
with us six months or less and are at apprenticeship levels of their trade
receive added supervision. Employees wearing yellow hardhats are paired up
with more experienced employees wearing white hardhats. Once an employee has
been employed for a six-month period, he is assigned a white hardhat. This
program helps us control injuries obtained from new employees with minimal
work experience.
-
All employees adhere
to a strict drug testing program upon their initial employment and are
subject to retesting when rehired or when there is reasonable cause for
suspicion.
-
Prior to the start of
the job we will provide a site safety survey and review the following:
OSHA Notification Forms, Dig Alert Notification, Construction Permits (for
structures 36ft high or more), and Annual Construction Activity Permits that
are needed for the job.
-
During the site survey, methods and means of protection for the various
types of work to be performed at the jobsite will be discussed with
the Superintendent. A plan will be formulated in order to provide the proper
training and certification to employees on that job. OSHA requires that only
competent individuals perform certain types of work (scaffold users, fall
protection, excavation work etc..). State and Federal Regulations dictate that
training and documentation must be provided for various types of operations
(forklift, traffic control flaggers, CPR/first aid, etc. Our program is
designed to meet or exceed these standards.
-
Before any work is started, all mandatory State and Federal
Posters and Notices are posted in the jobsite office. Most all
notices posted are job specific, including;
-
Emergency Evacuation Plan:
Listing responsibilities in an emergency, competent personnel at jobsite, first
aid/CPR trained, emergency meeting locations, and procedures to
follow.
-
Certifications: A job specific list is generated listing all certified
employees. These lists are posted and updated as needed.
-
Hospital Maps/Training Center Maps: The closest hospital locations are
chosen and maps with driving directions and telephone numbers are posted. Maps
to the training center are also provided.
-
Permits and Notifications: Construction Permits (for structures 36ft
high) and OSHA Activity Notification are both job specific and are also posted.
-
Emergency Numbers: This list of numbers includes; fire department, police
department, and other public departments and agencies.
-
At a jobsite
with no office, a Compliance Binder that
contains all Posters and Notices is provided. Employees are made aware of the location
and contents of the Compliance Binder.
-
Safety
Programs: The procedures and documentation
for each program are maintained conveniently in a Blue-Box referred to as a
Safety-Pac. All information is continuously updated, dispersed and reviewed
with every Superintendent. Responsibilities are discussed with the
Superintendent and delegated to competent people. These
programs are job specific and may include:
-
The
Fall Protection Program: Used at all jobsites were conventional fall
protection is utilized.
-
The
Fall Protection Plan: Used when conventional means of fall protection
are unfeasible.
-
The
Hazard Communication Program: Used at every jobsite were hazardous
material is present.

such as, the IIPP, Safety Programs, M.S.D.S., Cal-OSHA Construction Safety

additions made to the Safety Pac are discussed with every Superintendent
-
An
inventory of forms, checklists, and coversheets is taken and anything needed
is supplied. Safety
Topics are provided to Superintendent applicable to the work they are performing.
-
Along with
documentation, other supplies are set up at the start of each jobsite,
these include;
-

Aid Kits (Cal-OSHA Approved): These are set up at the jobsite and
continually checked.
-
Eye

supply of safety
Glasses, hardhats, and earplugs.
-

-
Hazardous conditions change from job to job and are different in nature. We provide on
going training, hazard &
assessment, hazard abatement, tailgate safety meetings and inspections at all our jobsites and
train employees whenever they are assigned to new equipment or tasks.
Although safety is a huge
part of our job startup procedure,
it is the on going commitment
to safety,
through inspections,
evaluations, accountability, and training
that makes
Largo Concrete #1 in Safety.
