Genesis Solar

Located in Riverside County, the Genesis Solar Project generates nearly 250 MW of renewable energy annually utilizing concentrating solar wnergy technology to heat a synthetic oil or heat transfer fluid (HTF). The HTF is then used to heat water and create steam which turns turbines and generates electricity for 88,000 homes. This is the equivalent of removing 330,000 tons of carbon dioxide if the energy was produced from fossil fuels. The inside of the parabolic troughs are lined with reflective material focusing the sun’s energy to heat HTF running through insulated tubes running along the focal point of the troughs.

Location: Blythe, CA

Scope: 23,008 caisson foundations for parabolic troughs & 4,400 HTF foundations

Complete: November 2012

Client: Genesis Solar, LLC

Engineer: Fluor Corporation
